Proof is in the puddin

After some more time to let the idea sink in, I've come to the conclusion that the benefits of sharing each others bookmarks far outweighs the risks of having no garauntees regarding the platform.

I feel this holds true if you regard bookmarks as just that, bookmarks. Del.icio.us is not a repository of content, it is a repository of links to content. And if the content is very important for you, save it on your hard drive. If you need to find content "on the fly"... aren't you glad others more knowledgable than you have bookmarked it?

And the proof is in the pudding! Several proposals for "pilots" have been suggested and I'm getting ready to start trying it out. And looking forward to making this idea tangible!

Ideal Marriage? EUFORIC and del.icio.us

Euforic has 447 entries in del.icio.us. and exactly 100 tags.

But more importantly they are organizing their links/bookmarks with tags in del.icio.us, and displaying them in their website (via feeds) according to these tags.

For example, EUFORIC's page on acp-eu fisheries relations
displays a list of links which are "fed" into the page via a feed, from del.icio.us/euforic. The feed is selected according to tags they defined (example: http://del.icio.us/euforic/text+fisheries or http://del.icio.us/euforic/event+fisheries).

There are several issues to consider with this structure... pro's and con's... I think the biggest pro is the opportunity to work together on lists of bookmarks... the biggest con is del.icio.us offers no garauntees... where will it be, who will own it in 6 months time, and will the service continue as is?

Imagine... delicious

Imagine...
Organisations focussed on similar topics using same tags in de.licio.us, managing their links together...
What tags has EUFORIC decided upon using? We will learn more about this after lunch.

Sites such as del.icio.us and FlickR pioneered the concept of tags, or user-assigned labeling and categorization information. This has come to be known as a folksonomy.

The next step, Maricopa-ing!

Now we have all kinds of feeds, the question is how to publish them in websites as HTML. You could use rss2javascript! (as a php include or iframe is also possible)
When using javascript, all pre-4th generation browsers beware! But being fearless, we move on to maricopa! http://jade.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu and the result is below...

Great playground!

Not hindered by any knowledge on blogs, I happily enter your playground!
Fun to be here. Congrats on your newborn blog!

Live and Learn

Live and learn, the animated gif is updated automatically! Just need a bit of patience.

And the benefit of using Feedburner is that it keeps very informative statistics about your feed! Of course adapting awstats you could get statistics on your feed as well, and you could keep the hits coming to your server, BUT you couldn't get as detailed statistics as feedburner has. So, like so many things in life, see what's best in which context.

Animated Gif Feed

My second post in the blog!

Including the animated gif generated by feedburner... first thoughts, is this gif updated automatically? If not it becomes outdated quickly. But it's fun to Chickletize my blog!! :>

RSSplayground

WELCOME to the playground
The first step is to create a blog.
Next we will register for del.icio.us, create a list of links.
THEN this will be combined into an animated gif to take your breath away.
